P.S. I stole this idea from The Boring Runner. Go on over to his blog. His posts are generally much more hilarious and candid than mine. Basically it makes for some
Without further ado, 10 random things you probably didn't care to know about me:
1. The first two CDs I owned were Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill, and TLC's Crazy, Sexy, Cool. I got them both for Christmas in...1996? Maybe 97? I can't quite remember, but I was in middle school. Don't these two albums bring back some awesome memories?! To this day, I'm still in love with every song on Alanis' CD. "An old...man...turned 98..he won the lottery...and died the next day..." Man, I love that CD.

2. I've only ever run one 10K in my running "career." One. And it was almost 3 years ago. In fact, I ran it when I still thought it was totally normal to run in cotton t-shirts. And to run in my glasses. Just take a look. I get a kick out of this photo every time I see it. There's no one else around me which just goes to show that I either finished the race first, or dead last. I'll let you guess which one. And the cotton t-shirt...hahahahaha. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until spring or summer to run another 10K. Racing season is already over here in Alaska.

3. I just bought P90X. I figured since I'm on a running sabbatical I still need to keep in shape, which is something I've utterly failed to do since just before the Ragnar Relay DC. And I've heard fantastic things about P90X -- mainly that I'll get so ripped and fit that even Tony Horton will be put to shame. Seriously can't wait. Should be awesome. On a serious note, have any of you actually done P90X, and if you did, how was it? Epic? Ass-kicking? Sweat-inducing? Lame? Babies could do it?

4. I'm a lotion whore. Growing up in a desert will do that to you. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I lotion my hands and legs during the day. But let's just say that in the morning after my shower, my entire body gets its first daily lotion ration. From there, my hands (and arms if I'm wearing short sleeves) get lotion about every two hours or less(I carry a tiny bottle of lotion with me in my purse at all times and I have a bottle at my desk...it's a permanent fixture). If I'm wearing shorts or a skirt, I'll even lotion my legs that often, too. Then before I go to bed for the night, I apply my second daily ration of full body lotion. Let's just say I have some of the softest skin around. My favorite lotion scent: cocoa butter.
5. I just bought a new car about a month ago, just after I moved to Alaska. My old car that I've had since I was a senior in high school finally gave out (Goodbye, 2001 Dodge Neon! It's been real.), and since it would no longer make the trip up to Alaska, I decided to fly here then peruse the vehicle lots. After just two days I found it, and it's a beauty. It's a little bold, but at least now other cars will see me, right? It's a 2008 Jeep Patriot, leather interior, heated seats (which, by the way, I've already been using every morning for the past few weeks), and a sunroof. I'm loving it. I love driving it, and I'm pretty excited for the 4WD come snow time. P.S. There's already snow in the mountains here. I'm guessing it won't be longer than 2 weeks before I'm plowing the roads in my Jeep.
6. I discovered a new TV series over the summer, and I can now fully say that it's my new fave show of all time. DEXTER. I watched the first four seasons in a span of about one month, and now I'm currently enjoying the season five episodes. Love. This. Show. Michael C. Hall? Yes, please. Who knew that a serial killer could be so irresistible? Damn. Any of you watch Dexter?

7. My favorite job I've ever had was when I worked at The Herald Journal as a copy editor. I loved it for multiple reasons: (a) my schedule, (b) the people I worked with, (c) the kind of work I did, and (d) birthday Fridays and Meegan's baking. Let's go through this point by point, yes?
(a) My schedule. I worked a swing shift. 3 pm to 11 pm, or earlier depending on when we got the newspaper finished. Most people would hate this shift, but because I'm such a night owl, I enjoyed it. I got to sleep in however long I wanted, I went running in the late morning, I got errands done. It was perfect.
(b) People I worked with. I loved my boss, Chris. He made working at the copy desk so enjoyable. He was laid back, funny, but definitely still cared about the work you produced. And because I worked the night shift, I was obviously there with all of the sports writers and editors. A few words: All men, all addicted to sports = hilarious, never-ending fun. We'd watch games on tv, sitcoms, whatever. Most laid back atmosphere ever. And I also loved my fellow copy editors. This is, in fact, where I met Holly. We had good times at the copy desk, that's for sure.
(c) The work I did. I love editing, although it probably doesn't seem like it from my horrible grammar and sentence structure on my blog! But trust me, I'm a great editor when I need to be. Not only did I get to edit, but I got to design the pages of the newspaper. I got to write headlines. I got to write feature stories. I got read news from the wire. I've never been as up to date on current events as I was when I worked there, and it's something that I miss.
(d) birthday Fridays and Meegan's baking. Maybe this wasn't so good for the waistline, but every Friday we celebrated "birthdays." We made popcorn, people brought food, it was delish. And Meegan's baking...mmm. She was one of our photo journalists, but she was an amazing baker. She'd bring in treats once a week without fail.

8. I'm a Republican through and through. I like politics. I don't usually discuss politics on my running blog, nor will I now. Each to their own. But I can at least say that I'm a Republican for a reason, and because of a lot of thought and research through the years. I went through a stage in life where I really tried to figure out where I stood concerning my political affiliation. Eventually, I needed to stick by my instincts, and it just so happens that those instincts match more closely with the GOP party. I hope in 2012 I can attend the Republican National Convention.

10. My mind's a blank.....
Awesome fluff. Amy and I have been on a running hiatus and decided to start P90x as well. We are on day 4, and so far I'd say it's pretty good. Kind of time intensive though. I never thought I'd be staying up till 11:30 to complete a yoga session, but last night I was.
ReplyDeleteIf you do take on the 90 days be sure to blog your results and put us all to shame !!
Love the fluff and your new Jeep is SWEET!!!!!
ReplyDeletelove, love, love Dexter! Speaking of being republican, I had the most random dream last night. I was at this place that had that had a tiny donkey and a tiny elephant on a table. I was told I had to choose one so I took the elephant. So.very.random.
ReplyDeleteUm, I'm pretty sure you didn't come in last in that 10K because I know who did! Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteThinking about you!
Love the pimp ride! And I just love you.
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves Dexter, but it creeps me out. I spent like a week obsessing about serial killers after we watched the last DVD from Netflix.
