Well goodness. So much for trying to blog more. It's just sad, really. But here's the good news:
I've been running!!!!
Yes, my running friends of the blogosphere, I've been a running beast. And I love it. It took me weeks (and I mean weeeeeekkks) to get out of my running slump. I blame it on the rough end of the year. 2010 definitely threw me for a loop. But the good thing about it is that I'm feeling quite optimistic in 2011. Which is a bit crazy, because I'm actually a pretty pessimistic person normally, but for some reason I feel good about things right now. I feel good about where my life is headed and I feel good about getting my running legs back. And they are back. My running legs are baaaaaaaaaccckkk!
So here's what I've been up to:
1. Stalking 2011 races.
I've been making lists, then deleting races, then adding races, the crossing off others. There are so many good races to run, and I want to make the most of my time in Alaska. What better way to see this place, right? My first official race of 2011 is next week in Anchorage. It's called the Frostbite Footrace 5K, and it's run through the streets of downtown Anchorage. Side note: I've been known to frequent downtown Anchorage on the weekends for, uh, "extracurricular" activities. It's been fun. Apparently this is a costume race, so I have to somehow come up with a killer costume to wear during the race. Something more than your average run in a tutu, if you know what I'm sayin'. They award cash prizes for best costumes! So....ideas? This race is part of the Fur Rondy celebration, so maybe something to do with hunting, fur trapping, etc?!?!? HELP ME COME UP WITH SOME IDEAS!
2. Planning my trip to Southern California in April
I've booked my flight and I'm ready to go. My bestie from high school lives in LA, and I haven't seen her in ages (well, actually I saw her over the summer....but that doesn't count, it was only for an hour or so). So I'm going to her stomping grounds and we're gonna party like it's 1999. Or 2002, however you want to see it. And just for the hell of it, she and I signed up for a race. This will be her first race EVER and I can't be more excited to run it with her! So, in two months she and I will be running from Huntington Beach to Coronado Island via the Ragnar Relay So Cal! (Excitement!) I'm Runner 6, she's Runner 5...good times await! I'll give you the low down on the race in the next blog post or so.
3. Running!
Like I mentioned before, I've gotten my ass back into gear and I've been tearing up the streets (and treadmill). So far I'm only averaging around 20-25 miles per week, but considering a month ago I was averaging 5 miles a week 20-25 sounds fabulous. Actually, it IS fabulous. And pretty soon 20-25 will become 25-30, then 30-35, then 35-40 because, yes. I'm training for MARATHON #2!!! Marathon #2! It sounds so good to say it. It feels so good to actually be in the midst of my training schedule! I'm obsessed with that training schedule. I'm obsessed with crossing off day after day of workout completed. It feels good to have that goal again. Yay running!
4. Enjoying winter in Alaska.
I love Alaska. I really do. I never in a million years thought I'd say it, but I love it here. Even in the dark and the cold, Alaska never stops surprising me. there's so much here, so many beautiful things to see. Did I mention I got to fly a plane? And climb glaciers?! And for a while there I thought I'd never see the sun again, but praise the heavens above IT'S GETTING LIGHTER! The sun now officially rises around 8, and when I leave work at night, it's still light outside. It makes. My. Day. Give it a few more weeks and we'll have more daylight than all you folks in the Lower 48. And you best believe I'll be rubbing it in your faces. hahahaha. Summer is almost here!
Yay for running!! I'm finding my running legs now too - but it's only bc it's finally warming up here!
