In approximately 24 days I will be running across the state of Florida. Me and 11 other people whom I have never met (seriously) will be running from Tarpon Springs (on the gulf coast), to Daytona Beach (aka: every college boy's dream spring break location).
I don't feel as prepared for the Florida Ragnar relay as I was for the Wasatch Back, but I'm also not going to have to run up and down mountains, so it equals itself out (I think). I'm Runner #12, so I'll be bringing up the rear, and I'll be the one running into the finish line, which, in my opinion, will totally kick ass. Plus, the Husband will be there at the finish line (Daytona is only 45 minutes from St. Augustine), and that will make it even sweeter. I love it when he's there at the end of a race.
Anywaaaaay, I'll be running a total of 20 miles (!!!), and I feel like while it may be a challenge, it's totally doable. I mean, c'mon! I ran 18.1 during the Wasatch Back and that was at 5000 ft elevation, with hills, and I had the flu. Twenty miles on the flats of Florida should be cake. Take a look at my legs (not my real legs, you pervs!):
Leg 12: 8.8 miles

Like I said, it's as flat as pancake.
Leg 24: 3.6 miles

Ooooo, hills. Not too bad, though. I can handle it.
Leg 36: 7.6 miles

Again, flat as a pancake.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but it's a goal of mine to run every single Ragnar Relay. For shiz. So far, one down (Wasatch Back), nine to go. In 24 days it will be two down, eight to go. And next year I've got the Northwest Passage Ragnar and the Washington D.C. Ragnar on my schedule. Sure, this may take a few years to complete, but I WILL do it.
Oh I do love you! You will do so good! And now that it is here, I am totally jealous that you are running another one. but between us both, we will have three of these dang addiciting races done with. PLUS you will totally heart being runner number twelve! I think it is so fun, kinda depressing on your first leg that EVERYONE has one down and you have yet to start, but great to be the one bringing it in. Good Luck (not like you need it). Take LOTS of photos for me!
ReplyDeleteI have several friends that do the Mt Hood to Coast run here in Oregon every year and they love it.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever need a place to stay in the NW feel free to give me a call. Miss you.
You are so awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi Christy! I stumbled across your blog while searching for Ragnar Relay blog posts. I ran the Las Vegas relay on Oct. 9-10 and had a freaking awesome time doing so. It was so much fun. I never would have thought it would have been such fun.
ReplyDeleteJust looking at your respective legs makes me want to get back out there and run another Ragnar Relay!!
Anyway, figured I'd follow. Your blog looks interesting and somewhat mirrors my own running tale as I ran my first race, a 5K, back in June of 08 and, like you, haven't looked back.
My blog, by the way, is muddyrunner.blogspot.com.
Eek... maybe I would do the DC one. Or do you have a team already?
