"Are you tired?.....

....cuz you've been running through my mind all night!"

Okay, okay. Worst pick up line ever, right? I was just trying to be all witty about my post title today, but as usual my wits are only sub-par.

But seriously, I can't stop dreaming about the upcoming Florida Ragnar. And they're not good dreams, either. Let me just preface this by saying that I have incredibly vivid dreams. I always have. I wake up and I can remember even the minutest detail, down to what shoes I had on, or what color lipstick I was wearing. Weird, I know.

So as I was saying, last night I was dreaming about the Florida Ragnar. It was almost my turn to start running my first leg. If you scroll down and see, my first leg is 8.8 miles and FLAT. One hundred percent flat. But in my dream, I started running, and all of a sudden, the road was no longer flat. It gradually changed from steep incline to almost vertical. A vertical road.

I attempted to run it a few times, but kept falling backwards, flat on my face. And the volunteers were laughing at me. I was extremely frustrated and was worried about letting my team down by not being able to finish my leg. So I did what anybody would do in that situation. I "climbed" to the top of that vertical road. And by "climb" I mean I grabbed a hold of mile markers, metal posts, etc. (you know, the typical things that are on the side of roads), and just when I thought the road was going to flatten out again and I could stop climbing, I hit a wall. A real wall. It was a dead end. I let go and fell backwards to where the laughing volunteers were and they were cracking up. Fits of laughter, I tell you. They say, "You went the wrong way! That was a decoy road! HAHAHAHA!" Jerks. So I turn around and run the right way, and I was pissed because I officially wasted 10 minutes getting nowhere.

Cut to my second leg. Most of my second leg is going to be on a trail, so I won't always have the support of my Van (scroll down to see...), and I'll be running this leg at approximately 4:00 in the morning. It will be dark. Really dark. I guess I'm kind of worried about this leg because in my dream, this "trail" turned out to be some sort of maze I had to navigate through in the dark. I had to turn around and choose another route more than I care to remember. I couldn't see my van, I couldn't see any other runners, and I was wasting time and energy. Then, out of nowhere, part of the trail turned into stadium stairs. Stadium stairs!! What?! I have no energy for stairs. But once I got to the top of the stairs I could see my Van waiting at the next exchange on the other side of the maze.

And then I woke up.

You know you're obsessed with running when you dream about it. I just wish they would've been better dreams!

And on a slightly unrelated note, I can't stop listening to this song during my runs. I'm obsessed with Glee (the inner high school choir nerd maybe?) and I love this song. Enjoy!

  1. ooo be careful on your night run without your van being there on a trail...i dont mean to add to your nightmares, all i'm saying my night run was on a trail with no lights too and the van couldn't get to me for a while. Mary Ann was there with me because I got a little freaked out when I looked out and it was pitch black and I hadn't studied my leg so I didn't know where I was going, anyways, she came and we got lost! just study your legs and your trails and you will be a rockstar like usual!

  2. One of the members of our van had a trail run during the Vegas Ragnar. Actually, three runners during the second legs had trail runs but Runner 7's was solely on trails. He said it was the best run he'd ever been on in his life, because it was on a trail and in the middle of the night and he just loved it apparently.

The only problem he encountered was finding the exchange point. There were a few logistical problems with the Vegas relay and that was one of them. We were in the parking lot where the exchange point was (at about 2 a.m., how awesome is that?!?) and we noticed runners coming out of three different areas. Eventually we saw Runner 7 but he wasn't sure how far out of the way he'd gone. Hopefully there are better logistics during your trail run.

I do think though that you'll have a better time than we did because you'll be passing off to the next van, and Runner 6 also had a trail run and she had no problems with her run, either following the trail or finding the exchange point.

  3. Weird [scary!] dream!

And YESSSSSS! I have been running to the gLee version of "Don't Stop Believing" as well. It's in my long run playlist. And when it comes on I usually repeat it twice before going on to the next song. So freakin' good!
