Feeling flabby

Remind me never to take an almost 2-month break from posting something. Not only has my blog suffered, but my running has suffered as well. Bah. But I'm back in business, folks. I need to be. I'm feeling all flabby and gross from not running very much, and I fear my body is yelling at me to get back to work.

Screaming would be more like it. In my head, I think this is what it's saying to me: "Christy! Do you feel this extra roll that's grown around your belly? Yep. That one. It's squishy and it's taking up too much room. Roll thinks he owns the place, and let me tell ya, Abs is here to stay. If I need to break out the daily crunches, I will do so. Trust me, if Roll keeps growing I will show you no mercy. Oh. And Cellulite Bum says hi. Should I kick his ass as well? Love, Abs."

So in the past two months a lot of stuff has happened. Both good and bad. I think I want to start with the good. This blog needs some cheer, so I'll postpone the bad for another post. Okay, so the good...

I ran a 5K yesterday. Sadly, it was the first race I've run since the Gate River Run 15K back in March. Yikes. Before I give you the obligatory race report, I need to preface this with how my running has been lately. In case you haven't guessed, it's been sporadic at best (hence, aggravated Abs). I haven't done a run longer than 5 miles, and I've definitely slowed down. So when I signed up for this race, I had no intention of doing well. In fact, I was preparing for a personal worst. Seriously, folks. My running has been THAT bad. But, I needed a race to get my motivation back. And at a whopping $1, I couldn't pass it up. And, yes, you read that correctly. ONE DOLLAR. I'm a girl who can't resist a bargain, so away I went!

My thought process about 5 minutes before the gun went off: "F*#k it. I feel like sprinting."

So I ran.

And ran.

Until I about spewed my last meal.

It was hard. I could feel the effects of my lack of training every step of the way. And then at about mile 1.75 I walked. (Walked?!?! This is a 5K, right? What. The. Hell.) It was a short break, maybe 20 seconds, but seriously. I WALKED. In a 5K.

And then I kept running at full speed ahead. I looked down at my watch and realized that despite my walking, I was booking it. Really booking it. And then a thought popped in my head.

I can PR. What?!?! I CAN PR!

The last mile was hell. I wanted to PR, but I was already so tired from running at such a fast pace. It hurt. I wanted to puke.

And then I crossed the finish line and checked my watch. 26:18. A PR by 3 seconds. The first thing I thought? "Damn. Why did I have to walk?!" HAHA! Bet someone really regrets that walk break, huh?

Time: 26:18
Pace: 8:27/mile
Overall place: 36/152
Women 20-30 age group: 4th place

I about killed myself, but it's good to know that the runner is still inside somewhere. It definitely gave me the motivation to get back on the training bandwagon. And that's what matters.

P.S. I'VE MISSED ALL OF YOU SO MUCH!

P.S.S. Also, I've seriously effed up my blog. I'm trying to figure out this new "design" tab and apparently I'm a retard. Yikes. Sorry about the weird appearance. I'm working on it.

  5. I'm so happy to see a post!! Good job on the PR... and who cares if you walked? Your walk means that I am faster than you in a 5K by 1 second. :)

  7. NICE work on the PR!! Sometimes the accidental ones are the best.

I have to admit, I made sure to go to your blog to see if you posted a picture of you "pretending" to be flabby...and to see how your blog layout looked. Looks good to me?

  8. The walk might have given you the energy you needed to book it towards the end and PR, so it could have been a blessing in disguise :)

And welcome back to blogging, even if it's only intermittently. I'll take that over no blogging at all ;)
