Logging the miles...

How have I not caught on to The Daily Mile before now?! It's bamboozling, really. So this may be quite a bit late, but I finally got my butt in gear and joined. Perfect Another online social networking site that'll suck my time away from me. Sarcasm aside, I feel like Daily Mile might actually be freaking awesome. As in it does everything I've ever wanted out of a running site. I mean everything. I might be in love.

So if you're on Daily Mile, be my friend. And if you're not on Daily Mile, well, where the hell have you been hiding? Join!

Tonight I logged a 4 mile treadmill run. I'm not loving the treadmill, but when the winds are blowing 75 mph (ultimately making it feel like -10 degrees outside and making it impossible to run against the wind) I have to force myself to love it. The run actually felt quite good. I ran at a 10:00 pace for the first two miles, then picked it up to a 9:30 for the last two. I'll probably be saying this a lot within the next couple of weeks, but it feels good to know that I still have this running thing in me. I was quite worried for a while, honestly...

One notable item of mention: I still love it when I'm running next to someone and kick his or her ass. Especially when it's a young, athletic-looking guy. For some reason it just feels so good when I know I'm making his 5.8 speed look like shit. I mean, c'mon, man! You're getting chicked! (by someone who hasn't been running for 3 months.....)

Side note: Is "chicking" allowed on treadmill running?

And because I feel like this blog needs a little spicing up, here are a few random pictures of what I've been up to here in Alaska these past few months. Enjoy.

Laughing with friends. At home, at bars, at movies, everywhere. Laughter is sorely needed.

Meeting American Idols in random Anchorage bowling alleys

Getting dressed up all snazzy with friends on New Years

Taking my dog on dark walks

Re-learning how to drive in the snow

Snowshoeing in back country Alaska

Sleeping over at the cabin. Good times. This pic was taken when Holly came to visit. I miss her...

Attending "real" hockey games. Alaska hockey games. Doesn't that make it more real?!

Glacier-viewing. Cant wait until summer when the trails to the glaciers are open again.

And just because I think this picture is effing beautiful and so very Alaskan. This picture was taken at 1 p.m. This is as high as the sun gets during the day. I kind of love this picture.

  3. LOL on Daily Mile. I have resisted it because I didn't want to get sucked into one more thing. I may have to make the leap...

  4. I added you on DailyMile. :) I only use it to track my runs online, so I haven't been totally sucked into the social aspect of it yet!

I can't even imagine living in Alaska - thanks for the pictures!

  9. It was fun to look at your pictures!
I can't compare the wind here to the wind there, but it does something bad to a runner. Windy runs are way worse than just plain old cold runs. Treadmills are a necessary evil sometimes.
