An 11-mile reward

Yesterday was my birthday. And I was scheduled to run 11 miles according to my Wasatch Back training. Eleven miles on the 11th. I could handle that.

This is what kept me going:

I knew that Derrick was at home baking me my very favorite kind of birthday cake (Funfetti with Rainbow Chip icing), and that a very large piece of it would be mine as soon as I walked in the door.

Is it bad to reward yourself food for running? Probably so, but it was my birthday, and I freakin' love birthdays, and there was no chance that I was going to pass up my Very Favorite Birthday Cake.

And it was delicious. But hey, if you go by the "you burn 100 calories per mile of running" rule, I totally burned those cake calories before I even put a piece in my mouth! At least I'd like to think about it that way. Don't spoil the fun, folks, by telling me that I only burned 1100 calories of what I ate earlier in the day.

Props to Husband for baking me the cake. And props to me for running 11 miles yesterday, bringing my total weekly mileage to 28. That, in itself, is a milestone because I've never run more than 24 miles in a single week before.

Also, Husband scores mega points for taking me to the Nike outlet store and letting me pick out my own birthday present. I, of course, purchased this new Nike running tank top, and although you can't see it in the picture, a new running skirt.

Happy Birthday to me!!

  2. Funfetti is SO good. That's incredible that you did a long run on your bday... still haven't done that. Ever.
