Marathon plans and weekend pride

I like having this blog to focus on again. I just started training for the Baltimore Marathon a couple of weeks ago, and it's been hard to really get into the swing of it. The blog reminds me why it's so much easier to motivate myself to run when I know people are reading about it. Ha.

So far this week I'm 2 for 2 on my runs. I ran 3 miles yesterday on the Custis Trail in Arlington, and today I did 5 miles on the treadmill. I'd prefer to run outside, but holy sh!t-balls! HUMID. It rained all day today, and when it finally let up around rush hour (and the time I usually go running), the air felt like walking into a sticky mess. I know I need to just train my body to get used to the humidity, but uggghhhhhh... Oh well. I can do it.

So here's what the rest of my week looks like:
Technically, this is Week 3 of my 18-week marathon training schedule. Woot. Only 15 weeks to go! Haha. But seriously, it's nice to have a big race to train for again. I sometimes don't know why I like pushing myself through 26.2 miles, but I have to admit, I can't stay away from it. I originally wanted to run the Marine Corps Marathon, which runs through Arlington, but it sold out in record time. *sigh* Next year. While perusing through other local races it came down to Baltimore or Richmond...and Baltimore won by default because it's closer. I didn't look at the course elevation before I signed up (oops), and it looks like I'll be pushing myself through some hills. Bring it on, Baltimore. Bring it on.

Aside from running, I spent my weekend in the city with a new friend. She's new to the area, too, so it's been nice to "discover" DC with her. We happily supported friends at the gay pride parade in DC on Saturday. Holy crap, those drag queens look more fabulous than I do! I had a blast, and it was fun to see the Pacers Running Group give their support with a float in the parade (including an awesome choreographed "runners" dance!!) Afterward we, of course, made delicious tequila drinks then hit the town.

Me, Morgan, and Elise (hooray for new friends!)
So. There you have it. Running plans and life plans are coming together! Love DC.
