...I'm going to run a marathon.
I know I've always said that the half marathon is the longest distance I'll ever run. Frankly, I've had no desire to run 26.2 miles. Until a few months ago. It was then that I decided I wanted to finish a marathon. Just one. And then that would be it.
What better time than now? I wanted to be pretty picky about which marathon I'd run. I wanted it to be fun, low key, and mostly flat. And since I'm living in Florida for a couple of years, what better place to do it?
So, in January 2010 I'll be running the Disney World Marathon in Orlando. Does this scare me? Absolutely. Heck, even the half marathon is still a scary distance for me! But I think this race will be the right kind of combination between fun and challenging. I'll get to tour the four parks of Disneyworld, and maybe even get my picture taken with a few Disney characters long the route. I don't want to put too much pressure on myself for my first marathon, and I think this one will be pefect.
And who knows? Maybe I'll even decide I want to run another marathon.
I LOVE reading posts like this one!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect race for your first one. Although I have to warn you, you'll probably want to do another one when you finish. :o)
let me know exact dates so I can come out....mom
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I will never run a full marathon, but if I did, I would want it to be the Disney World one too. Maybe I'll come out and do the half. :)
ReplyDeleteWhitney, that would be a perfect idea. And then when you're out here we could go to a Gators game!! Really, you should seriously think about it.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's so awesome that you just decided to run a marathon. It's something I *think* I want to do at some point in my life, but I'm not ready for that commitment yet. 2010 is the year of the Half Marathon for me. I'm hoping to run 3 or 4!
