Weekend lull

Can someone please tell me where my motivation for running goes during the weekend? I'd like to know. I was supposed to run a 6-mile yesteday (Saturday) and, for the life of me, I couldn't get up and out of the house. This happens to me most weekends. I don't know why, because it's not like I do anything exciting on the weekends to tempt me from my workouts. But my motivation never ceases to take a weekly one-day sabbatical almost every week.

And for that matter, when training for longer distance events, why do people always schedule the long runs on the weekend? I know, I know. For most people, running on a Saturday isn't an issue. But for me it is! I'll have to figure something else out. Maybe long runs on Monday? Who knows.

No, no. I take that back. Saturday really IS the best day to run a long run. I just need to find that Motivation and kick its ass back to Saturday.

Speaking of long runs, and I know I mentioned this on my personal blog, but I'm in the midst of preparing for the Gate River Run 15K in Jacksonville on March 14. Did I just say March 14?! That's less than a month away. Oh dear. I haven't run 9 miles since my half-marathon and that was back in April of last year. Oh, man.

  1. I think the important part of long runs is to mentally "not have a care in the world besides getting the miles in."

For most people its easiest to block off this chunk of time on the weekends, usually Saturday. I work half days on the weekends, so lately I've been doing long runs on a week night. I like that the gym isn't as crowded and college basketball is on TV :)
