What do you wear when you run? Shorts? Skirts? Tights? I wanna know.
You see, I'm a fairly new runner. And by "new" I mean I've only been running for 2 years. At first, I used to run in my yoga pants. But I soon realized that those were just WAY too hot. And I don't mean hot in the "Look at me, I'm smokin!" kinda of way. I mean in the "Swass" kind of way. (Please tell me that I'm not the only one who knows what "swass" means)
So then I switched to running shorts. Although I like that my legs aren't covered in fabric, I don't like that, because of my tree trunk sized thighs, the shorts ride up between my legs, and at 5 minute intervals I'm having to pull them down. And lets not even talk about the kind of chaffing one gets because of the shorts riding up between the legs. Sure, if I was 20 pounds lighter I think the running short would be my choice running gear. However, I am not 20 pounds lighter, and suffer with giganto thighs. And, let's admit it, I always felt uncomfotable thinking that skinny people were staring at my jiggly thighs while I was running. Being self conscience is NOT something you want to worry about when running.
So then I decided to try the running skirt. This was mostly a way to cover up said tree trunk thighs. Which, for the most part, skirts do just that. When I run, I don't feel self conscience anymore, my legs aren't covered in fabric, and it generally just feels nice...until you sprint. See, sprinting causes the skirt to fly up and reveal jiggly thighs anyway. Plus, I hate the stigma that goes with a running skirt. You know, the "You run in a skirt, you can't be a serious runner" stigma. I AM a serious runner, I just like the skirt. Not because it makes me look cute, or because I want to be girly, but because it keeps me from worrying about things I shouldn't be worrying about when running. I should be concentrating on my pace, my breathing, not tripping over my own feet, etc.
So, I've been wondering if I should try the running tights. I'm thinking capri or mid-thigh length. Has anyone tried these? Do you like them? Give me feed back. My husband says spandex makes people look funny, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he just doesn't want me to cover up my ever-so-sexy giganto thighs, because for some reason unbeknownst to me, he actually likes my legs.Suggestions, anyone?
I've been running (on and off again) since January 07 (it's usually been that I train for the Salt Lake Half Marathon from January until April and then don't run again until the next year, but I'm not planning on doing that again this year!) and this year I bought full-length tights for running outside in the freezing cold. I really, REALLY like them! And I thought that I would be self-conscious of them being so snug on my butt, but once I start running, I don't think about it. I have capri length ones too and I also love them. If I ever find those mid-thigh length ones I will totally buy them!
ReplyDeleteAnd that's all I have to say about that.
Welcome to the running world!
ReplyDeleteThanks for swinging by my blog, and for sure add me to your roll. :o) (I added you to mine.)
As far as pants, I wear shorts when it's nice, but I don't necessarily wear "running short". I think they're baggy and not cute. I have a variety of mesh and volleyball shorts for races and nice days.
And while I'm concerns about me looking cute, I can tell you that I rarely care what other people wear. a.) You probably don't have "tree-trunk" thighs and b.) No one would notice.
Wear what's comfortable!
Shorts are my favorite. I also get too hot in pants. I do have Nike Spandex for when its cold outside though!
