I love me some relays

Third post for today. I'm just trying to make up for the lack of posts these past two weeks. Or something like that.

As I've mentioned before, I'm in the middle of training for the Wasatch Back Relay race that takes place on June 19 and June 20 in Utah. For those of you who haven't heard of this race series, go check it out. They've recently expanded and now there are relays all over the country. If you live near one of the races, I highly suggest getting a team together and running it. Anyway...as I was saying...

My team has decided who'll be running each set of legs, and I'm now Runner #6. Which is awesome. It'll be a challenge, but I'm so excited for it. These are my legs (click for larger view):
LEG #6 -- 6.9 miles, -1120 feet net elevation change

I bet my quads are going hurt after this one. For obvious reasons I enjoy running downhill. But I've never run this FAR downhill. It'll hurt. And I'll need to save my energy for what's coming up next.

LEG #18 -- 8.1 miles, 605 feet net elevation change

I'm most nervous for this leg. Obviously. Running 8 miles is a challenge in itself. But running 8 miles uphill...I'm going to need to be thinking happy thoughts during this leg. The good thing is, this is a beautiful part of the course. I'll have plenty of scenery to keep me occupied. I'm a little concerned about the fact that I'm training at sea level, and I'll be running this at above 5000 feet. Should I be concerned? Most of my running "career" has been at those elevations. But now my body has been running at near sea level. I suppose I'll be fine.

LEG #30 -- 2.8 miles, -30 feet net elevation change

This leg will be cake. Hopefully. IT'll be a nice break from the down and up hills of the previous legs.

I love the Ragnar Relay series. Seriously. It was awesome last year and I'm hoping it will be double awesome this year.

Go team We Need More Cowbell!

  1. What a cool event! They do a relay like that here in Nebraska from Omaha to Lincoln, but the scenery is 60 miles of corn fields. :o)
