I know I haven't posted in two weeks. Where has my motivation gone? Not sure.
It all started with a week of being backed up. And when I say "backed up" I literally mean it. Almost two weeks ago I was running my 6-mile hill run and it hurt. I felt like I had to go to the bathroom, and every time I tried...nothing. Have any of you ever run on an upset stomach? It hurts, but it is usually a relief when you puke or, you know,...go. And I couldn't do either. I don't know how I managed to get through that run.
And then the next day I ran 3 more miles. And my stomach still felt like it was going to explode. Those were 3 of the most painful miles I've ever run.
After that I decided it was best to not run. Or do any sort of exercise. Is this weird that I'm talking about my bowel issues? Oh well. So that's that. I couldn't "go" for four days. And it really messed up my weekly mileage. I really detest it when something gets in the way of my runs. Especially during those weeks when you really want to run.
I did manage to run 12 miles that week, but after that my motivation went out the window. It's been a struggle to get my butt out the door to go run. I've done it, but only because of remembering something someone told me once: "Go running. Even when you don't want to. Because when you do want to run, something will get in the way and you won't be able to."
Good advice.
I love that advice to go running when you don't want to. I really need to do better at that. I haven't done a long run in two weeks. I was supposed to run 7 miles on Saturday and I didn't... I'm planning to run 5 tonight. And I really need to JUST DO IT. I've got to stay on track for the race in 6 weeks.
ReplyDeleteoh man....this is the story of my life! The "poo ache", no bueno.

That's a great quote! And yes I've had a similar issue when running. (What runner hasn't at some point?)Makes a distance you can do in your sleep tedious/painful.
ReplyDeleteLuckily between coffee, Cliff bars, running, and beer it doesn't happen too often to me and only lasts a day or two.
