The Many Miles week

This is it, folks. The week I've been dreading ever since I printed out my marathon training schedule on that crisp white sheet of paper back in September. The high mileage week.

This week, if I hit all of my runs (which I will), I will be up to 42 miles. Forty-two! The most miles I've run during the course of a week is 35. That was the week before last. Let me say this one more time. 42! 42! 42!

Ahhh. Now that that's out of my system, I feel a little bit better. Want to see what the week looks like? What was that you said? No, you don't care? TOO BAD, I'm tellin' ya anyway.

Yesterday: 5 mile run
Today: Speed intervals (which will roughly add up to 2.5 miles)
Tomorrow: 10 mile run
Friday: 5 mile run
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 20 mile run

Although, I can't really consider Saturday a rest day, as the husband and I will be traversing through the wonderful world of Disney. I'm sure the walking miles will add up. Maybe not, though. I mean, how big is Disney World, anyway? I mean, it's not like you can run a marathon through it....oh, wait. That's right. Yes you can.

And as a last minute funny, remember a few days ago when I posted my 3 rules of running and spitting? Remember Rule #3? Apparently last night I had a complete disregard for rules, and as I went to spit I didn't pay attention the wind direction. I'm sure you all can see where this is going, yeah? Yeah, spit. All over my shoulder. Damn head wind.

  3. Good luck with the 42 miles! It will feel great to have it behind you. And have fun at Disney World (the inner child in me is very jealous!).

  4. What?? You're going to Disney World on Saturday? LUCKY! I'm begging Tyson to take me out there next fall (also to the Harry Potter world that will open in the spring... yes, I am a loser.) Are you still going to be living out there next fall? When is D done with school?

  5. I'm taken my family there also this weekend. I love all the Christmas lights and decorations. We do this most years before the season and It really puts us in the Christmas mood. Enjoy your last hard training week and the extra walking does count towards your training base. All that walking in the parks on hard surface works my legs and feet more then running! After this week, it's all academics from here - You did the hard training, now enjoy the moment and run the race.

  6. Our Disneyland passes expired and while we're going to renew, we won't be able to do so until the new year, so we won't get a chance to go before Christmas. Sadness.

Anyway, enjoy Disney World and take some cool pics.

I'm starting to get freaked out by my 20-miler too! But knowing you are going to knock out 20 miles on Sunday also... well, it doesn't make me feel a ton better but I know I'm not the only one freaking out about a 20-miler :D

Nah, actually it will give me some inspiration and drive to finish my own 20-miler. Let's just try and breathe.

    And 42 miles?? Nice!

  7. Nice! the best part about peaking in your training is the glorious taper to your race.

The worst part (for me) is that once I run that many miles I eat like I am running that much (even though I may only run 15 miles in a week). Yeah, I usually gain some weight during taper :)

  8. Ahhh...the land of high mileage. I remember those good old days. Yay for 20-milers! You'll do great. But yes, the disney walking will probably have an effect on your legs (just being on them all day).

  9. As a self promoting shmuck, I just put a list of my tempo songs up on my blog. Take a look - maybe you need to move back to the 80s with regards to your music ;)

  10. Wooo doggy! 42 miles!!! I'm going to be up to that sooner rather than later and my knees are shaking just thinking about it! The most miles I ever reached during Chicago Marathon training was like 36! Good luck girl and let me know about Sunday!
