The advantage of a partner

Tonight I ran with the group I was telling you all about, the Ancient City Road Runners.

It was awesome. I definitely didn't realize how much I missed running with a partner. I only did 3 miles, but I ran those 3 miles about 3 minutes faster than I've been running on my own. YAY!! And, although most of the other runners who came out for the run were much faster than me (when I say "faster" I mean, like, blow it out of the park faster. Like "I think I just felt a gust of wind...oh, wait! That's just me getting passed by Superman..."), it didn't really matter to me. There were runners of all speeds.

And let's just go back to the fact that I cut 3 minutes off of my 3-mile time. Seriously. Who just does that? Obviously, someone with a running partner. I couldn't use the typical excuse of "Man, I'm just too tired today. I think I'll stop and walk for a bit." The excuse I've been using too much these days. Sure, I could've stopped to walk, but I didn't know the route, and I would've ended up lost, at the beach, trying to find my way back.

I didn't feel pain, I didn't feel tired, I was enjoying my conversation with the two girls I was running with, I was entirely distracted the entire time. When we hit the 2-mile mark, I looked at my watch and was shocked that only 18 minutes had gone by.

So, I plan on thoroughly enjoying my membership in ACRR.

  1. Sounds like a great run. Good choice joining the running group. I'm considering doing that myself.
