Because I forgot to post my weekly workout schedule yesterday, here's what I'm up against this week:
Monday: Yoga
Tuesday: 5 mile run
Wednesday: 9 x 400m speed intervals
Thursday: 3 mile run + strength
Friday: Race #1 from Tour de Pain (4 mile beach run)
Saturday: Race #2 from TdP (5K in Jacksonville), AND Race #3 from TdP (1 mile afternoon run).
Technically, on my official schedule it says to run a 15K race on Saturday, but there are no 15Ks around here right now, and I figured the Tour de Pain would be just as good. It might even be better.
I'm wondering if I should start posting my weekly workouts on my side bar. Jesse, from Run to the Border does this and I really like it. That's what I love about the online running community. You can learn from so many people, get encouragement from them, give encouragement to them, etc. I know not a lot of people read this blog, but I do truly appreciate the ones who do. I love the online support system this brings! But, that was slightly off subject, and I really think I may rip off Jesse's idea. Hope you don't mind!
The great thing about training schedules is that they're not set in stone. At least for me, anyway. I mean, they're set in stone as far as the workouts go, but if I need to switch the days the workouts are done, I do that. I do that a lot. For instance, yesterday was supposed to be my 5-miler, but because I had an awful night of sleep (two hours) before I went to work, I was simply exhausted when I got home, and opted to do my yoga workout instead. Does anyone else do this? I feel if there wasn't some sort of flexibility in my training I would go crazy.
Speaking of yoga, I love it. I'm the type of runner who hates stretching. Hate. It. I know I'm supposed to stretch after I run, but I don't. People say you can easily get injured if you don't stretch after you run. Obviously, I don't care what "people" say. I hate stretching. It's just too...immobile? I feel like I'm just sitting there, mindlessly stretching a muscle here or there. That's why I do yoga once a week. It seems to be the right amount of stretching I need during the week, and it doesn't feel at all like "stretching". It's a workout, and not only does it stretch, it strengthens. So at least it makes me feel like I'm doing something more than just sitting there.
I'm pretty sure I stole the sidebar idea from someone else. Shamefully, I can't remember from which blog though!
ReplyDeleteI think that running three races in 24hours would be a much better workout than a 15k training run.
I always hear runners talking about yoga. I should maybe give it a try sometime. I've attempted pilates a few times(at home), but it's a pretty scary sight.
Sounds like a great weekend of racing. The beach one looks killer! Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteHiya! Of course please add :) Glad you found me because I love finding semi-close runners as well! I see you're doing Ragnar...I'm doing the Wild West Relay this weekend!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading more!
I usually stretch more before I run than after. Guess that's my dance background coming out.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I switch up the days I do runs. I'm pretty good about making sure I make it to the gym when I'm training for a race though. I think it's fear of not being ready that motivates me ;)
