Tomorrow I have a 7-miler planned, and if the weather decides to cooperate unlike it did yesterday (helllloooooo, monsoon and tornadoes!), I WILL be doing those 7 miles outside. I've had a new route planned out that I've been anxiously awaiting to try, and I really don't feel like doing those 7 miles inside this weekend. I want to be out. Because the rest of the weekend I'm putting myself under house arrest to get some studying done.
I'm not kidding, either. I plan on at least 6 hours of studying both Saturday and Sunday. Trust me, come Saturday afternoon when I'm nose deep in notes about the movements of American literature, I'm going to NEED that 7-mile run break. It'll be calling to me. Screw The Great Gatsby, give me some "Tik Tok" and fresh air!
Which brings me to another topic. I have a lot of catching up to do to be prepared for the literature portion of my teaching certification test. I've been thinking that because I spend so many hours running, maybe I can kill two birds with one stone. You know, "read" while running. Have any of you ever listened to books on tape while you run? Side note: Why are they still called books on "tape", when technically they are mp3 files or CDs? Shouldn't they be called "Books on iPod" or "Books on Compact Disc"? I've been wanting to give it a try, but I worry that I'll be too preoccupied with running that I won't pay attention to the words being spoken. Any insight would be helpful.
New topic. Sorry, it's completely unrelated to running, but it's such good news, I have to share.
I'm going on a cruise!! That's right, folks. Me and a few of my gal pals from back home are heading to the Caribbean in March for a week-long party on white sandy beaches. What does the husband think of this? He's all for it. Unfortunately, grad school is taking my husband away from me for two months for his first physical therapy internship. He'll be
New topic. But this time totally and completely related to running.
I've mentioned before that I'm running the Gate River Run 15K on March 13 in Jacksonville, but I have some fantastic news to add to that. I've recruited a pacer to run with me, keep me going, and keep me speedy. It's none other than Morgan, from Caution: Redhead Running! She and I have conversed through emails as of late and decided that we are totally going to run this race together. I'm looking to PR at this race, and she's just the person I'd love to help me stick to it. The race is 2 weeks after she's running the Gasparilla Marathon, so she wanted to take it slow, not overdo it. Haha! I love how her really slow pace is my really fast pace!! Cracks me up! Anyway, I'm super excited to run with her and I know it'll be a good time. Yay for bloggy friend meet-ups!
Happy Friday, everyone!
I hope you got your run in!!!
ReplyDeleteAs far as audio books, Spike listens to them while he runs and he says it helps him tune out. I have the new Dan Brown book & the new Phillipa Gregory book from my trip up to Chattanooga that you are more than welcome to borrow!
So excited about Gate River! Seriously, we're going to have a blast and I'm so stoked to help you PR this. I promise I will be the best pacer ever!!! :)
What fun to have a pacer! Good luck in your race. One of the gifts my daughter gave me for Christmas was to pace in a marathon to qualify for Boston, Of course I need to do my part and be ready to run that pace!
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog and love it. My sis lives in Jax and I was sooo soooo close to signing up to fly down to run in the Donna Breast Cancer race. I also have the dream of running the D-World marathon. I have just run a half and I am getting the itch for a marathon.
ReplyDeleteIf yoy get a chance I would love to hear more about the marathon and how you signed up, trained, etc. I am running the Seattle Rock N Roll half in June.
I listened to the first six Harry Potter books on my iPod. I started listening to them when I was in the mid-200s and was below 200 pounds when I finished. It was great. I've also listened to Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons on the iPod. My brother is hooking me up with audiobooks of the new Dan Brown book, the Twilight series, all the Lord of the Rings books and others. I've gotten away from audiobooks as I've been listening to music but am anxious to get back into it.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely recommend it, but they're expensive. Try the library and checking some out and burning them, if you can.
I'm currently listening to Dean Karnazes' UltraMarathon man on my iPod. I'm not a big fan of reading books, but I had heard so many good things about this one. Definitely an easy way to thumb through 200 pages.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE running podcasts!! Don't know if you've checked them out. One of my favorites is 4 Feet Running. They are about to record their very last podcast (I'm very sad!), but there are 70-some podcasts on iTunes to listen to and I listen to them over and over again. Husband/wife team. Love them! http://4feetrunning.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteAND, if you're trying to get through some of the classics for your Am Lit class, check out http://librivox.org. I just finished listening to Jane Eyre. Totally free. Volunteers read and some are annoying, but hey - did I mention FREE?
Lots going on here...
ReplyDeleteHopefully where you are the rain stopped. It did here and it was GLORIOUS.
I've done a book on tape before. It was a challenge while running to follow the storyline 100%, but I think that with focus you could do it.
Having a pacer would be a BLAST. Have fun!
my friend listens to books when she runs all the time. she even blazed a half marathon while listening to one and clocked a 1:53! personally i like fast music.
