i'm just going to come right out and say it. Ladies and gentlemen, I've been contemplating getting a tattoo. It's true. Ever since the completion of my first marathon, I've been toying with the idea of getting some sort of small tattoo on my right foot to commemorate that accomplishment. I want to always remember that my feet carried me 26.2 miles in a few short hours. When I'm middle-aged, old, whatever, I want to be able to look down at my foot and be reminded that I'm capable of accomplishing big things. And who knows, what if I become a lazy ass? Having a permanent reminder on my body might inspire me to get my body moving again. LOL!
But I'm stumped for ideas. The only for sure thing that I know I want is "26.2" and then....???????? So I come to you for help. What would you do? I don't want anything flashly. I want it simple. And small. Really small. Like no bigger than the size of a nickel. I like the shoe with wings look, but I've seen a lot of peole who do that. And I want to be original. Or, at least, semi-original.
Am I crazy for wanting a tattoo? I've never been inked before, so I have no idea what it'll feel like (from what I've heard the top of the foot is one of the more painful places to get a tattoo), and I have no idea if I'll regret it later in life.
Hmm.
I tried to get my first tattoo, chickened out, and still passed out cold on the road after I left. Haha!
ReplyDeleteI finally got it, and I still love it. Well, I never see it, but it is simple and I dig it. I said I would never get another, as I totally passed out WHILE getting it. Doh! But the 26.2 is such a huge thing, it would be my only motivator for another.
Good luck in your decision! I think the simple 26.2 sounds pretty perfect, actually!
I have 2 tattoos and I honestly regret both because they dont mean anything and I was young and dumb for getting them. I am a huge supporter of a 26.2 tattoo and I may do the same once I complete a marathon. I believe your marathon was at Disney so maybe 26.2 inside a mickey head or 26.2 below a little pic of cinderellas castle would be fun.
ReplyDeleteI have two tattoo's. I hate them both. BUT I was young and dumb when I got them. I have been contemplating a running tattoo as well for the very same reason! :) Just make sure to really think about the design, draw it in pen on your skin and wear it around, wait a month and see if you still like the design... then commit.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like just the numbers...but, I look forward to seeing pics of your final choice :)
ReplyDeleteIf your tattoo is going to be small, you don't want too much detail because it may bleed over time. keep it simple. have fun deciding!
ReplyDeleteI am hopefully working my way up to an iron man and when I do I am going to get a small tat in an out of the way place like my ankle or inside my bicep. Just remember they are pretty much forever.
ReplyDeleteI have six tattoos and even though my first one (when I was 18) isn't something I would re-do, I do not regret any of them. They all have meaning, they are all in places that if I have to I can hide them and I love them. This summer I am getting a tri tattoo. Even if down the line, I stop doing tri's, it was what changed my life and put me on a path to be a better person.
ReplyDeleteI say go for it! Maybe get the shoe? Or a foot? Or even just the 26.2. If you are going small, keep it simple!
I have one tattoo with no real significance. I was young when I got it. I don't really regret it because I'm not a person who lives with regrets. Plus it's in a place no one sees so that helps. IF I were to ever get another one it would probably be "XXVI.II" which is 26.2 in Roman numerals. I think it's pretty cool but I'm 100% sure my tattoo days are behind me. Good luck with your decision!
ReplyDeleteCheck out runners world forums, they have a few threads on running tattoos. I would suggest signing up for an acct and then searching for Tattoo.

I have no recommendation. I've said that i'll get one once I join the 50 states club, but until then I am going to wait.
I recently invested in a a huge tattoo. I wanted it for 2 years and I just went for it after I finished a half IM. I think you should absolutely love the idea, research an artist you love, and find a CLEAN shop! Mine is not triathlon related but is a daily multiple reminder of doing more. GET INKED GRRRL!
ReplyDeleteI want tattoos! I have two but I want more, one (actually about two small ones) to remind me of my weight loss and another for the marathon I ran and the marathons I will run. I know what I want the first set to be - kanji - but I'm not sure about the marathon one.
ReplyDeleteI got the yurbuds by the way. AWESOME!!!! Thanks!
I think I'm too much of a scaredy cat to get tatted up. But, then again that could change if I face my fears of completing a full before I die. I like your 26.2 idea. You should get a really girly design!
